Tynddraenen

Siarl Owen

Siarl Owen is the third generation of his family to farm in the Swyddfynnon area. He lives with his wife Mair, and their two young children, at Tynddraenen on the edge of the village.

He farms a total of 850 acres, 550 of which are a few miles away in the mountains. They lie on the western slopes, surrounded by forestry, high above the ruins of Strata Florida Abbey.

In total around 1500 breeding ewes spend the year there, or on the more sheltered fields around the farm. Many of their offspring become Cambrian Mountains Lamb.

He also runs a herd of around 80 pedigree Welsh Black cattle.

Always keen to diversify, he and his wife also own Penuwch Fach Livery Stables and two holiday cottages: www.celticaccommodation.co.uk.

They have also moved into producing Biomass CHP energy on the farm.
