Huw Davies and son Emyr are the 3rd and 4th generations of the family to farm at Aberdauddwr, which lies in the valley of the River Brefi just east of the attractive historic town of Llandewi Brefi. They farm a total of around 1250 acres that extend from the valley floor to the tops of the surrounding hills.
This includes the neighbouring property of Carnau, where every spring they use the barns for an intensive three weeks of lambing for their 1000 ewes. It means an exhausting 24-hour a day vigil, but they feel it’s worth it to avoid the losses that can occur during bad weather on the hills.
Emyr is keen to add to his sheep farming experience. He has already spent a few months working in New Zealand, and hopes to do the same in Australia in the future.
