The Evans family started to farm at Neuadd Fawr in 1971, later expanding into Tynrhelyg the adjoining farm. Today, David runs the farming with wife Jennifer, and sons Sion and Hefin, whilst his parents Evan and Carol, who are Tourism Ambassadors for The Cambrian Mountains Initiative, look after Tynrhelyg Holiday Cottages.
The family farms around 2000 acres, much of it on high ground between the valleys of the Leri and the Ceulan. They also have some moorland near Nant-y-moch reservoir, which is also the site of their spectacularly isolated Llechwedd Mawr cottage. They have a flock of 2500 breeding ewes. These are mostly Welsh Mountain the type best suited to this tough environment.
They also have a herd of around 90 suckler cows, generally Hereford and Limousin crosses.
