Brothers Aled and Emyr Lewis farm over 1000 acres of upland in the scenic Ffair Rhos area. Their grandfather bought the land in the 1930’s, and it includes some old mine workings where he used to work before the purchase.
Today Aled, wife Mair and children William and Ioan; and Emyr, wife Meinir and Nia, Rhys and Teifi all get involved with the farm. It ‘s too early to know if any of the children will follow in their footsteps, but the brothers are planning for the future. This year they have joined Glastir Advanced, the higher-level of the Welsh governments’ sustainable land management scheme.
The farm supports around 2,500 ewes and a herd of 60 suckler cows. Over half the sheep are Welsh Mountain, the rest Welsh mules; and a large share of the lamb goes under the Cambrian Mountains label.
